are pleased to offer

‘From Fiction to Drama:
The Challenges of Adaptation’
a two-day workshop for budding playwrights

Facilitator: Anmol Vellani

Venue: British Council Library, Prestige Takt, 23 Kasturba Road Cross (Opposite Visvesvaraiah Industrial and Technological Museum), Bangalore

Dates:  12 and 13 August 2017 (Saturday and Sunday)

Timing:  10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days

Fee: Rs 3,500
(Rs 3,200 for members of the British Council Library)

Deadline for applications: 7 August

This two-day workshop will look at short fiction through the lens of drama. Participants will be alerted to the contrasting narrative strategies of fiction and drama and grapple with the many challenges of theatrical adaptation. The primary focus of the workshop will be on distilling a story for the purposes of drama—on deciding what needs to be emphasised and what may be disregarded, and when enhancements and additions are needed and justified. Participants will learn how to construct a scenario, write scenes, and create the first draft of a play-script based on a short story. In the process, they are expected to gain a deeper insight into concepts and principles essential to story-telling in the theatre.

The workshop will involve preparatory reading, writing and collaboration. Participants will need to keep the evening between the first and second days of the workshop free to undertake script-development work.

Participants will be required to bring a laptop, pens, writing paper and index cards to the workshop.

The workshop will be limited to 12 participants between the ages of 18 and 35. Applications should be sent to sarita.tfaindia@gmail.com along with a short bio-note and a few lines about why you would like to attend the workshop.

Participants are requested to make their own arrangements for lunch. Coffee and snacks will be provided.
